WHY IS POULTRY WATER SANITATION IMPORTANT FOR YOUR FLOCK?

Water: a critical, but an often overlooked, nutrient - every drop is crucial!  At normal temperatures birds consume 1.5 times more water than feed. At high temperatures, that consumption can double or even quadruple. Growers must focus on providing a continuous water sanitation program to deliver safe, contaminate-free water.

A common misconception in the poultry industry is that the introduction of enclosed water systems dramatically improved water quality. In reality, these systems provide the ideal growth environment for harmful pathogens. The industry has settled into disregarding water system sanitation, especially biofilm.

Biofilm is defined as a complex community of bacteria, fungi, algae, and other organic contaminants that thrive when they become firmly attached to hydrated surfaces. Even if the water supply in the house appears to be clean, water lines with low or no disinfectant residual levels are nearly guaranteed to harbor biofilm.

The materials used for poultry water lines create an excellent matrix for biofilms and promote the growth of devastating pathogens including:

  • Campylobacter

  • Listeria

  • Bordetella avium

  • E. Coli

  • Salmonella

  • Psedomonas

  • Staphytoccus

Providing a sanitary water supply is not possible without addressing biofilm problems. An effective water sanitation program can solve the microbial and mineral build-up problems frequently displayed in poultry water systems. Benefits of continuous water sanitation include:

  • Reduced pathogenic bacteria introduced into the GI tract

  • Improved feed conversion

  • Reduced incidence of disease

  • Reduced medication usage

  • Reduced disease transmission throughout livestock holding facilities

WOLF is the only system that provides you not only with an ultra-fast, broad spectrum efficient biocide for microorganism control in water systems, but also provides real-time poultry water data and monitoring capabilities to provide that peace of mind all growers strive for.
